Greg Lewis - BCA #5071

March 3, 1940 – October 8. 2022

Gregory William Lewis passed away due to pancreatic cancer on October 8th, 2022, at the age of 82. Greg is survived by his wife of 57 years, Stevie Schwab Lewis, sons Jeffery and Garrick, and three grandchildren. Greg was Inland Northwest Chapter Director until September of 2022 when failing health forced him to resign. Greg was the driving force in getting the 2023 BCA National Meet awarded to Spokane, and served to Meet Chairman until his death. He is very sorely missed.

Greg was born in Seattle, graduated from Bellevue High School, and continued his education at Washington State University in Pullman, earning his B.S. in 1962, an M.A. in 1965, and a PhD in Brain Physiology in 1970. In 1970 Greg Lewis was commissioned a Captain in the U.S. Army and assigned to the U.S. Medical Research Lab at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Greg resigned form active military service in 1973 and went to work as a civilian scientist at the Navy Research and Development Center in San Diego, CA where he led research teams in studies like tracking brain interactions between the pilots, co-pilots, and navigators of Navy fighter jets.

While living in San Diego, Greg bought 40 acres of timber land in the northeast corner of Washington State where he built a log home and where the family enjoyed many summer vacations. Greg and Stevie retired to Spokane in 2002.

In 1965, Greg bought a 1951 Buick Special Deluxe sedan, Model 48D, from a fellow grad student for the bargain price of $50. Greg and Stevie were married in 1996, drove Greg’s $50 Buick on their honeymoon, and used the reliable old 1951 throughout the years raising their family. In 2012, they began an off-frame restoration to include the Buick in their 50th wedding anniversary celebration.

Greg and Stevie drove their 1951 Buick to Denver for the 2018 Buick National Meet where they won the Brashares Family Foundation Award given each year to the highest point 1946 – 1960 Buick at the meet. They then drove home completing a round trip of more than 2,200 miles.
